AUGUSTA HEALTH

HEART AND VASCULAR CENTER
Fishersville, VA

Augusta Health is among the finest community hospitals based in America. Nestled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, this 255 bed facility was opened in 1994 combining the hospitality and personalized care of its two predecessors in Staunton and Waynesboro. A staff and volunteers of 3,100+ operate a multi-disciplinary campus. Besides the hospital, a self-contained rehabilitation center, a cancer center, hospice, medical office buildings and most recently the construction and opening of a Heart and Vascular Center(HVC) offers this community complete healthcare service.

The HVC is a $30 million, 67,500 square foot, 4 story structure directly connected to the hospital. It provides state-of-the-art cardiovascular Diagnostic and Therapeutic services for Augusta county and the population of the surrounding region.

Fitzgerald Fine Arts (FFA) was contracted in late 2012 to provide visual art for the HVC. It was a daunting task in that the art had to be selected, bought, framed and installed by the first week of March 2013. The art, as is FFA’s trademark, is original, by local artists, of mixed media and with regional themes. HVC had a somewhat unique request that differed from most healthcare facilities – a collection with a strong contemporary appeal reflecting the architectural theme of their campus and relating to the existing permanent collection of the hospital. FFA assembled a collection of over 70 multi-media works of art created by 40 regional artists, including several by local school children.
