As Northern Virginia’s leading nonprofit healthcare provider, Inova’s mission is provide world-class healthcare to each person in every community they serve. The Inova Schar Cancer Institute (ISCI) is a state-of-the-art cancer center which opened in May 2019. Inova Schar gives patients unmatched logistical, clinical and emotional support. The roughly $150 million cancer center comprises more than 420,000 square feet on the 117-acre Inova Center for Personalized Health campus
Fitzgerald Fine Arts (FFA) was hired by ISCI in fall 2017 to provide curatoral, framing and installation services. Working closely with the Integrative Healing Arts Committee we created an environment for healing that complements the physical space and provides an atmosphere of calm, familiarity and compassion. The collection of over 800 works of art features a number of commissions by local artists, including a 9’ x 15’ mosaic, a wonderful tribute in glass to the donor Dwight Schar and a lovely ceramic installation in Radiation Oncology that brings an impression of the outdoors to the underground space. We also worked with Mobil/Exxon, the previous owners of the complex, to select images from their permanent collection that would be appropriate for the cancer center.
